The year-long wait came to an end last week with the premiere of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1. I finally got to see it last night and I thought it was really good, despite what the critics say. I was curious how they were going to split the last book into two movies, but they did it, and even though it wasn’t my favorite out of the three movies, I still really enjoyed it.
Following her rescue from the devastating Quarter Quell, Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) awakes in the complex beneath the supposedly destroyed District 13. Her home, District 12, has been reduced to rubble, and Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson) is now the brainwashed captive of President Snow. She meets President Coin who convinces her to be the symbol of rebellion, while trying to save Peeta from the Capitol.
This movie was very different from the first two because it didn’t take place in the hunger games. It’s dark, emotional, and builds-up to what should be an incredible ending next year. Although I don’t think they should have split the last book into two movies, it ended just the right way and left you anxious to see the last movie. Jennifer Lawrence plays the character of Katniss perfectly once again, and the entire cast around her did their very best as well.
